Pomeroy has served as pastor of the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs since 2002. The church was the site of the November 2017 Sutherland Springs mass shooting that claimed the lives of 26 people, including Pomeroy’s 14-year-old daughter. Pomeroy graduated from Texas State University with a degree in biological anthropology and served in various church leadership roles before becoming a pastor.
