Former U.S. Trade Representative

Kirk served as U.S. trade representative under former President Barack Obama, in which role he served as the president’s principal trade adviser and spokesperson on trade issues. He is currently senior counsel in the Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher law firm’s offices. In 1994, Kirk was appointed Texas secretary of state by then-Gov. Ann Richards, and in 1995 he was elected the first African American mayor of Dallas.
